For this inaugural edition of the Atelier HaruFuyu Salons, we invite you to explore a little-known facet of the dialogue between Belgium and Japan: the influence of Japonisme on ceramic production in the Mons region during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Through an illustrated journey featuring ceramics, decorative motifs and stories from local workshops, this lecture will shed light on the ways in which Japanese aesthetics inspired the imagination of Belgian manufacturers and artisans.
The lecture will be presented by Éric Prévost, independent researcher and passionate collector, author of the first book ever dedicated to the Mons ceramist Antoine Dubois. For several years, he has been conducting extensive research and educational work on the ceramic heritage of the Borinage and Mons regions, helping to revive forgotten chapters of local industrial history.
More than a lecture, this evening is designed as an immersive and privileged experience. Éric Prévost will bring to Brussels several pieces from his personal collection, many of which are rarely shown to the public. In an intimate setting that encourages discussion and exchange, participants will enjoy the exceptional opportunity to closely examine these objects, handle them, and discover their details firsthand.
The evening will continue with a moment of conversation and informal exchange around a selection of objects presented by Atelier HaruFuyu, chosen as contemporary echoes of the cultural dialogues between Belgium and Japan. The pieces displayed by Atelier HaruFuyu will be available for purchase by participants who wish to extend the experience of the evening into their own homes.

About the speaker:
Born in the Faubourg du Parc in Mons, in the neighbourhood of the Antoine Dubois earthenware factory, Éric Prévost grew up in an environment where traces of the industrial past and family histories intertwined daily.
Trained in architectural drawing at Saint-Luc Mons (formerly IRAM), he developed an early, attentive eye for forms, objects, and fragments that tell the story of an era. As a child, he would scour his parents' bombed garden searching for shrapnel, like a young archaeologist guided by curiosity.
A biochemical engineer turned fire officer, he dedicated his career to public service before directing the Health and Safety Committee of the Mons-Hainaut Zone.
Upon retirement, he naturally returned to family ceramics and the history of his neighbourhood.
Over the past five years, numerous encounters and collaborations have enabled him to gather scattered information, creating a website and a group dedicated to Antoine Dubois (and soon to René Dubois), opening a space for sharing knowledge about the ceramics of Mons and the Borinage.
